This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is the school of rock. Using guitars, drums, bass guitars, keyboards and a mic, my students write and perform their own songs and songs of others. We study the greats like Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Beethoven and Mozart. All in all students are creating relevant music.

My students are from loving homes and most live in poverty.

Over 90 percent of my students qualify for free lunch and breakfast and don't have or know what disposable income is. Families come in from Cuba every month and music is sometimes the only language that they can understand in their first weeks here. They are kind to each other, want to help each other, and want to do the right thing. My students want to make music and do it well. I want to provide all that I can for them to feel like the pro young musicians that they are.

My Project

For many years I have enjoyed great sound in my classroom, then just last week half of my system amplification failed, so now my students need a new JBL EON speaker. Main house sound is how students are heard singing amongst the rock band instruments that they also play. A singer is only good if you can hear them and I do all I can to make it a fair fight in the Rock Classroom environment. Students wielding an SM58 connected to these EON powered speakers can be unstoppable. They gain so much confidence hearing themselves and the players can stay with the vocalist because they can hear clearly.

My students will be able to hear music as it was intended to be heard.

Full sound that envelopes the room. Bone chilling theatrical sound that you feel as much as hear. Student's response to music will certainly change for the better. Their perception of all music will be enhanced, and their ability to perform their own will be doubled.
