Dear Donor, I am a second grade teacher at a school that houses students that come from low income families. I have been teaching first grade for two years and second grade for three years. As a requirement, each teacher needs to keep a portfolio for each student in her class during the school year. Students monitor their own progress by going back to their portfolios and looking at previous work they have done. Visitors who come to our school also look at the children's portfolios to see progress. I thought that if I could display the portfolios in a way that my students will be able to find their own, they will be in charge of their own work instead of me filing papers into folders and keeping the folders in one bin. I think that if each child will have their own portfolio space, it will motivate them to keep their portfolios up to date with their best work. I looked at the Lakeshore catalog and found a beautiful classroom portfolio center. I have twenty- four students therefore I will need two sets of the classroom portfolio center. This donation will truly make a difference in the way students value and use their portfolios. They will be able to use them independently and monitor their progress during the school year.
