My Students

Our school is a small, one teacher per grade, K-6, rural school, with one third of the student population being low income. My students struggle with academics due to having either a learning disability, emotional disability, speech/language disability, or ADHD. It is a blessing getting to work with these kids everyday and find ways to help them be successful in school. My students work hard and do not use their disability as an excuse but as a motivation to better themselves.

My Project

I work with children who love to move, and that is okay in my book! I am constantly moving around the room hardly ever sitting still. I am wanting to give my kiddos the best learning environment possible. I want them to embrace their wiggles and be able to learn even when they struggle to control their movement. By having wobble chairs in my classroom, those wiggly children can have the freedom to move in a way that is not distracting to others and still learn! Studies show that continuous movement while sitting relaxes the right side of the brain, which leads to better focus. I also have some chair tippers, so I am hoping a wobble chair will help prevent the need to tip and possibly hurt oneself.
