Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a first year teacher, I have not had the chance to meet my students for the 2018-2019 school year yet. I do know that my students will come from a low-income, high EL, high poverty district, and are faced with challenges every day. When they come to my classroom I want the chance to help them develop a community of learners who are academically proficient, demonstrate strong character, and exhibit self-confidence. I can’t wait to meet them come August!
My Project
A lot of my students come from homes where they have to share everything. They share bedrooms, toys, cloths, and sometimes even beds with their family members.
I want to give them a space in my classroom that is their very own.
I have requested seat sacks and hope to have them ready for my students to use at the beginning of August. The seat sacks will help my students start learning how to organize and be responsible for their classroom materials, as well as give them a place where they belong. During arrival, students will learn the routine of unpacking their notebooks, folders, reading books, and personal items, and putting them neatly in their seat sacks. At the end of each day, students will be responsible for taking out the school materials they need for homework from their seat sacks and packing them into their schoolbags. Each student will be responsible for keeping their seat sack clean throughout the school year.
Your donation to this project will allow my students to have the materials necessary to organize and store their personal belongings. It will also finally give them a spot in my classroom that is entirely their own. Although sharing is very important, sometimes it’s nice to have something that belongs to you and you alone.
