Help me give my students a place to store their basketball and other practice equipment so they can get to practices and games and not worry about the things such as where to get or store their equipment.
My students are from a rural community and attend a small K-8 school. Our school is its own district of approximately 150 students. One of the most amazing facts about the school I teach at is it happens to be the same school I graduated from, and also my dad before me. The building/campus I teach in is the same one I attended way back when!
In a way, so much has changed and at the same time; the students are just the same.
They are lively, energetic, and love to learn! Our school might be small and our budget is too, but that does not mean I do not strive to give my students the very best of everything they need to make their learning experience the best I can. With this DonorsChoose.org project, I will be one step closer to offering my students a comfortable and inviting place to learn.
My Project
At our small, rural school we have a middle school boys A and B team as well as a girl's A and B basketball team. With our limited facilities, we have a small gym that is large enough to have one court and also serves as our cafeteria. For this reason games and practices need to be scheduled with care and teams have to spend time long into the afternoon and night taking turns. We are currently trying to update our outdoor, outdated courts. With this update, the addition for our teams to get equipment and have a place to store it would be a great improvement over what they have now. Most of the time basketballs are kept in a ball bag in the coaches trunk and hard to access daily. To have a shed out on near the courts to keep all the team's equipment safe and centrally located would be a time saver and mean a lot more access to the equipment for all the basketball teams.
