Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Cube chairs will provide my students with the opportunity to participate in all classroom activities.
The students in my classroom are 3 to 5 years old with a wide range of developmental delays.
I have three separate classes that meet three days a week for 2 1/2 hours each session. The majority of my students begin with me with little to no verbal communication. Many of them also have sensory processing issues and poor proprioception in their trunks and legs, making it difficult for them to get into and sit in regular classroom chairs.
My Project
We currently have traditional blue classroom chairs in a variety of sizes in the classroom. Some chairs are too small, making it virtually impossible for smaller children to reach the table. Some chairs are too big, making it difficult for children to climb into. Cube chairs are the perfect shape and design to help my students learn how to sit up and manage their bodies in their own space. The design of the cube chair provides sides, which will also help my students stay in their chairs so that they are better equipped to focus and participate in classroom activities.
Cube chairs will make it easier for my students to access all aspects of their classroom environment, help them stay engaged in activities for longer periods of time, and begin to develop more of an understanding of where their bodies are in space.
