My Students
My students are hungry for the opportunity to discover new ways to express themselves! They are like little sponges...always wanting to and excited for the chance to try new things in the art room.
We are a small, rural district with limited means, and a significant migrant population.
Many of my students cannot afford even the basic needs of crayons and glue. They ask to take home blank paper to draw on, as they don't have any there. I try anything I can to encourage their creativity and love for art!
My Project
Currently my students use an old and structurally defunct drying rack that is very difficult for them to work without an adult. It tilts so that their work slides out and/or is damaged. The movable racks are missing the stoppers that hold them apart, and this causes the racks to get tangled. They are difficult to dislodge for an adult, let alone a young child. This is discouraging to the students. They like to be able to do things independently.
My students' works deserve to be treated like the masterpieces they are!
New drying racks will enable my students to be more self-sufficient, and feel that their creations are important....because they are!
