My students need an easel and cubbies in their classroom because they have no cupboards in the classroom to put all of their belongings in. They need a multi-purpose and portable teaching easel to use for instruction as well.
A typical day in my classroom consists of my students collaborating in tasks that meet the Florida State Standards. This is my 11th year teaching kindergarten and I still wake up loving what I do!
My class consists of 20 students all from diverse backgrounds and economic statuses.
The school that I teach in is a Title 1 school where all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. I am very fortunate to work at a school that acts like a family unit.
My Project
The easel will be used to aid the students in their learning. I need to be able to have examples displayed to them of what is expected in their seat work. It is so hard to hold up a big literacy book, turn the pages, and juggle different manipulatives while discussing the story.
The cubbies will be used for the students to put their personal belongings in. It will also give them a place they can call their own. Most of my students come from a low income family where they have to share beds, and live on minimal necessities. That is why I am grateful every day when I see them come to school, another day, and know that they are here and well. I try every day to instill in them that they matter, and are special in their own way.
The easel and cubbies will make a difference in providing my students with a great educational enhancement.
I will be able to show the whole group the pages and illustrations and have my hands free to demonstrate with manipulatives for a deeper understanding for the students will use the easel daily during lessons. The easel is a great place to model problems. It also provides a place for students to come up and teach each other as well as practice problems.
