My students need a place to call their own, an encouraging environment that includes: bright colorful spaces with comfortable carpets, flexible seating and resource materials for creative learning experiences.
We are a fun group of Grade 3, learners! My students come from military families and the majority of them have moved multiple times throughout the United States and abroad. Although the students have challenges to overcome at home and school, they face each day with a smile bringing their unique experiences to life as they open up and share their exciting stories.
In school, challenges the students face socially and emotionally include: learning to make new friends, deployment or loss of a parent, relocation and fitting in to new surroundings.
Life changes happen frequently and this can be overwhelming, as they have to adjust quickly and often during the school year.
Overcoming challenges through support of one another has been key to the success of our children. They have shown empathy, love and support. Through their support of one another and the bonds they have formed with the teaching staff, the students have shown resilience, strength and a great ability to embrace life changes.
My Project
My goal is to help ease social and emotional stressors by providing the children with a classroom in which they are able to learn in a supportive and encouraging environment. One that is full of color, comfort and cheer.
By adding carpeted areas and fun, flexible seating, the children will be able to enjoy their classroom experience to the fullest.
The resource materials will be used when conducting science investigations as the children make observations and draw models in their science journals. The children will use the math array board as they explore and learn number operations, multiplication and division.
