My preschool students are curious, motivated and genuine. They are like sponges that soak up everything that happens around them! In preschool, we work on academic skills, social-emotional competency and self-help skills.
My students are finding their independence.
They want to be responsible for themselves and challenge themselves to learn and do more on their own. They need to feel supported in the growth from their teachers and their environment. As a Head Start Center, we accept children who are from low-income families, children with disabilities and children whose first language is not English. Additionally, some of my students are in my classroom for two school years and others are only temporary as their family finds a more permanent home. This creates a unique environment in the classroom where we are constantly teaching and re-teaching skills, and students support each other in their development and learning.
In my classroom, we create a community of learners that are supported and are comfortable in their uniqueness. Despite some of my students challenges when they enter the classroom, all students show progress and growth in their individual goals and development.
My students are learning to be responsible and independent. These shelving units and individual cubbies will allow them to have their own personal space in the classroom to keep their nap time things and personal items such as blankets from home, cuddle buddies, pillows, a picture of their family and extra clothes. It is required that these things are kept separately from others to prevent any spread of germs or other unwanted contamination and individual cubbies can provide that separation.
Additionally, these shelving units are low enough to be fully-accessible to even our youngest students.
They are also appropriately-sized provide sight lines in the classroom for maximum safety and supervision.
My students want to gain self-help skills and independence, but they need the right materials to attain it.
