I have 22 bright, funny, and hard-working kindergarteners. They are hungry for knowledge, books, and love. They attend a public school in an area with high-poverty. The school itself is full of amazing teachers that go above and beyond the calling for each student. The children are truly resilient as sometimes they are dealing with things that are beyond their years, and I am constantly impressed by their academic performance. Each student has experienced trauma, and we are learning how to deal with and move past our experiences in a positive way.
My students deserve space and materials that they are proud to be in and with.
By discovering new knowledge every day they are becoming better citizens and students. They enjoy cartoons, music, reading, math manipulatives, and educational games.
My students are going to be diving head first into some amazing writing projects this semester: a personal narrative, an opinion piece, and a How-To writing all using graphic organizers. We'll continue to work on our Kindergarten Gazette, our only school newspaper written BY kindergarten for everyone.
My students will use this new book stand to showcase their writing projects, showing them that their writing matters.
These writing projects are going to take time and we are going to work so hard to edit and revise them to make them our best versions. My students love our current book stand, a cardboard version, but need something more stable to put their new writings.
