Ms. Yamamoto from Vancouver WA is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

A Place for Everything

Help me give my students bookcases to store our books. Over the past two years, I have tried to collect diverse novels to fill the bookshelves in my classroom and I have run out of room!

My Students

Resilient. The majority of the students in this classroom have overcome life situations and struggles that 14 and 15-year-old children should never have to face. They come from broken homes, no homes, or homes in the system. But they are here and they want to learn.

The students in this classroom want to be a part of something and are striving to make a difference in their community and in the world.

They believe that the future of our world and our nation lies in their hands and they want to know all they can about what is going. They are curious, opinionated, and determined.

My Project

Over the past two years I have worked hard to expand my classroom library by purchasing books that include characters that represent the diverse group of students I work with. While our classroom has one set of bookshelves, it is time to add some more so I can store the books we currently have and continue to add new titles in the years to come. I am a true believer in choice reading, which has been very successful in our classroom. Many students who claim to be "non-readers" have become readers because they have found a book that interests them. It is my hope to provide that opportunity to all of my students and to continue to collect and grow our classroom library. These bookshelves will give us that opportunity.
