A Place For Everything: Organizing Our Classroom Library
My students need book bins, laminating pouches, and labels to organize our classroom library so they are able to find the books they love to read easier!
My students are amazing! Many of them have persevered through the challenging situations that life has thrown at them. They are truly my heroes! Our school is a therapeutic day school for special needs students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Students typically attend our school due to challenging behaviors in general education buildings. These behaviors are often physically or verbally aggressive, either towards staff members and/or students and themselves.
Most students that come to our school have typically experienced traumatic events in their lives and/or suffer from mental health disabilities.
The goal of our classroom is to determine effective interventions so that students can transition back to their general education settings.
My Project
We want our classroom library to be as Benjamin Franklin said "A place for everything, everything in it's place." My students need an organized and structured environment to decrease anxiety and challenging behaviors. Having an organized classroom allows for the students to add predictability to their day. We are outgrowing our current organization and need more book bins to accommodate new books.
I want my students to spend their time gaining a love for reading and not searching through books to find the one they are looking for.
These book bins would allow us to organize our books by subject so that it will be easier for students to find books on their favorite topic. Visuals will also be added to the outside of the book bins to assist the students in gaining independence in locating books. The stickers and laminating sheets will be used to create visuals so that students know exactly where to put their books back so they can find it the next time.
