Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I performance improvement school with the majority of our students participating in the free lunch program. For many of my students, school is where they have access to books, supplies, and other resources that support their academic achievements. Many of my students come from homes where their parents are working hard to make ends meet and want their students to be successful in school.
My second graders are inquisitive and love to learn, and they inspire my teaching every day!
My Project
Two items, the clipboard storage solution and a treasure chest, would be game changers in our classroom. My second graders love it when they are free to move about the classroom and sit and work where they please. But to give them this opportunity to be independent and have choice means we need your help! Having students line up while others rummage through a box looking for their assigned clipboard is not an ideal situation; every minute counts in a classroom. Having these racks would help organize clipboards by their student numbers, making it easier for my students to access their clipboard without wasting much time. Time that can be spent on writing and completing their assignments once they have settled into their perfect spot to work. The treasure chest will also help store and organize the classroom goodies and treats I have as part of our reward system. Having one large box that's fun, easy to open and easy to find an appealing treat is something my students would love.
Being able to store items in a way that appeals to my students goes a long way in helping them respect their property and the property of others.
Teaching students how to organize, take care of their materials and return things to their place when every item in our classroom has its place is an important life skill they should learn.
