My school is a small school serving pre-kindergarten to sixth grade in a suburban Southern California community. My students are a diverse group of six and seven year old students with many different backgrounds and abilities. They are inquisitive and motivated to learn.
My first graders are just beginning to find a love of learning.
They are in the very beginning stages of learning to read, write and do math. It is exciting to watch their enthusiasm as they grow every day.
My students are very young. In order to help them maintain focus and understanding, the majority of instruction occurs close to me while sitting on the floor. Everyone needs their own place to learn. My students need a carpet with squares for each student to help them define their own personal learning space and to focus on what is being taught.
By donating to this project, you will help my students increase academic skills by providing them with their own space to learn.
The carpet will be used to foster a love of reading and build reading comprehension through reading books together. We will meet on the carpet for whole group and small group instruction in all academic areas throughout the day. Students can also meet on the carpet in small groups for remediation and enrichment. This carpet will be an essential tool to help my first graders grow into confident students.
