My Students

Our school is for the littlest elementary students - we have classrooms with Young Fives, Kindergarten, and First Grade only. We have about 500 students between the ages of 4-8.

I teach in a Title I (low-income) school in Coldwater, Michigan.

We have a very diverse population, and our English Learner population is growing by leaps and bounds every single year. I have 25 very wiggly kindergarteners. We have high expectations for these students, and kindergarteners are extremely hard workers.

My Project

Currently, our little town is growing to be not so little! With new factories being built and unemployment decreasing, our population is growing by leaps and bounds! Because of this, our class sizes are growing!!

I currently have a group time rug with 24 spaces, leaving a child out.

If our population continues to grow, it is possible up to six children will have to be seated somewhere other than the large group rug. We spend a lot of time during the school day on the carpet doing fun activities.

If this project is funded, our rug would have spaces for 30 students. This would assure that nobody is ever left out during large group learning.
