I work in an Early Childhood Special Education classroom. Sixty percent of my students have some sort of special needs, and the other forty percent are model students. They range in age from three to five years old.
My classroom is the first school experience that many of my students will have.
Everything is new and exciting. Every day we enjoy spending time building with blocks, creating artistic masterpieces, engaging in dramatic play, and reading stories. My goal is to make our classroom a magical place that the students love to come to.
My Project
Puzzles. Art work. Board games. Snacks. Sharing. Conversation. These are a few of the many things that are happening at the tables in our classroom at any given moment. Unfortunately, our current tables are too big for my students' little bodies. They are bulky and take up too much precious space in our classroom. The table in this project will complete our set of 3 tables.
I want to create a calming and inclusive classroom environment that allows all students to feel welcome and be successful.
Sixty percent of the students in my classroom have special needs or developmental delays. Many of the students also have sensory issues or struggle with fine motor skills. The light filters will contribute to the calming environment within the classroom. The spring loaded scissors and handwriting lanyards will allow students to be successful while independently demonstrating cutting and writing skills. The liquid tile will provide a calming activity for students in our quiet center.
