Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the amazing opportunity to teach the students at an elementary school in Hayward California. This is my first year teaching second grade, but I can already tell this is a good fit.
My students are a curious and cooperative bunch!
They love to learn in a variety of ways. They enjoy projects, read alouds, music, games, and problem solving. One half of them are English Learners, one of them is severely autistic and all of them are incredibly kind and cooperative. I'm so impressed already, in this first week with their ability to get along with each other.
My Project
Creating a comfortable meeting area in our classroom makes learning more meaningful. A welcoming and comfortable space is what my second graders want when they come together on the carpet. In second grade, we spend time on the carpet for morning greetings, story times, guided instructions, and group work so it is important that my students are comfortable and have enough space to be respectful of each other.
Having a carpet will provide my students with enough personal space to be comfortable and respectful of each other, while learning, listening, and working together.
The carpet will help with the organization of my students for instruction and games. My students will also have opportunities to use the carpet for collaboration as well as independent work throughout the day.
