Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten to 24 of the sweetest, most loving, caring, and smartest 5 year old kids. They love coming to school to learn, and to be part of something special. I strive each day to make each day the best ever.
Our school is 99% Latino and our entire school qualifies for free lunch.
Many students live in multi-generational homes and their parents work 2 to 3 jobs just to make ends meet. I do my best to make my classroom a positive and nurturing environment for them every day. However, due to budget cutbacks, it is sometimes difficult to get the materials we need to establish success.
My Project
My students need a safe clean place to sit in the classroom. The rug we currently have is 12 years old and is now falling apart. Our classroom has a tile floor and without a rug, we have no place to gather as a classroom community. The rug will help teach our classroom to respect personal space and to focus on our learning.
A rug is such an essential part of Kindergarten and is used for everything!
We sit on the rug for morning meeting, we sit on the rug for language arts, we sit on the rug for math, we play on the rug during exploration, we talk on the rug during oral language development, we dance on the rug, we sing on the rug, and most important we become a community of learners on the rug. This rug will help us feel good about ourselves and our classroom.
