This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Unfortunately for so many of my students the opportunity to express their ideas in a media other than an essay is all but impossible since my class does not receive art and the full extent of my art supplies are 48 crayolas and some printer paper.
Everyone at some time or another has wished they had another way besides an essay to express an idea or to present their work. In business today no presentation is complete without power point. Well in school the same theory should apply. When work or information is organized in a variety of ways it gives the students a more powerful and more accessible way to interact with the key ideas that they are learning. For example, why just study the pyramids and hieroglyph of ancient Egypt? Why not recreate them in the classroom?
That is why I am asking for these supplies. They are a platform from which students will be able to share their ideas. I believe strongly in integrating art as often as possible into the curriculum. When students who don't revel in writing have other outlets, it keeps them engaged. Art also encourages those students more comfortable with traditional assignments to push their thinking outside the box and discover new ideas.
I appreciate your consideration.
