My Students
One of the greatest parts of my day is when I see the excitement on the faces of students when they come to the library. Our school opened in 1999 and many of the books were purchased at that time.
Most students at our school love to read; however, like all schools, we have struggling and reluctant readers.
Students love coming to the library to hear a story and checkout books. It's exciting to see them grow into lifelong readers.
My Project
Graphic Novels are cartoon drawings and words that tell a story and are published as a book. Even classics and non-fiction can be presented in this format. Struggling and reluctant readers can be less intimidated by this format since there are fewer words while still being exposed to the same content as their peers.
My students need a varied selection of graphic novels to read as the current selection is very small with few titles. Funds from book fairs are the only source we currently have to purchase new books.
This project will allow us to purchase new titles/series to put directly into the hands of our reluctant and struggling readers. The graphic novels range from silly to the classics and non-fiction. Let's get these students excited about reading and turn them into lifelong readers!
