My students need an iPad with case to utilize all the features of Montessori Compass which allows us access to our curriculum, record keeping, photos and notes to share with parents.
A picture tells a thousand words! Our students are busy, hands-on learners. We want our students and parents to see their progress through pictures and online recording utilizing Montessori Compass an online tool that allows us to access curriculum, perform assessments, post photos, and notes.
Our students are public school students coming from all over the Salt Lake Valley to participate in our hands on, 21st century learning environment.
We are a free, public school that also hosts international students, giving our K-12 students a rich and diverse experience. We are located in an urban area and seek to encourage learners who develop agency, students who learn to love the learning process and who take ownership of their learning. Our students come to our school by choice, many of our students utilize public transportation to access our unique educational model. We encourage our students to interact with the materials and real world opportunities provided for them at our school. Students are encouraged to question and to strive for excellence in a rigorous academic program. We incorporate the performing arts as well as the sciences and value the use of technology in the classroom environment.
My Project
Our students will benefit from the materials I'm requesting because it will allow me to document their progress in real time using Montessori Compass- a program that gives me access to the Montessori curriculum we are using in our Lower Elementary School. The program allows me to take attendance daily, take photos to document student work, take anecdotal notes on student work, rank student's achievement on each lesson daily- from "Presented" to "Mastered" giving me visual reminders of students I need to reintroduce materials to at another time. Having an iPad with a protective case will allow me to move around my classroom and track students progress through pictures and notes in a very easy, hassle free manner. The parents will receive notes on their children multiple times/week and I will be able to track my students progress effectively. The program also automatically calculates what percentage of time I am focusing on each academic subject which will help guide my planning.
Having my project funded will change my students' lives for the better because it will allow me to take a visual portfolio accessible to both students and parents throughout the year.
It will give students a concrete way of seeing their progress and will improve communication between school and home. Students no longer will have to answer the age old question "so what did you do in school today?" Rather, they can show their parents pictures with anecdotal notes directly from their teacher.
