Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of the students in our special needs preschool program have severe delays in their communication and do not yet have a way of communicating basic wants and needs. To help with this, each child in our classrooms has a picture communication book to make choices and requests. Additionally, we often make books for our students to have at home to communicate with their families.

Giving our students a way to communicate helps empower them and reduces their frustration.

The materials that I am requesting will make it possible for us to create communication books for our students. The laminating sheets will be used to laminate the pictures to make them more durable and longer lasting. The velcro and divider pages will be used in the books so that the pictures can be put in. The plastic index card dividers are cut to make sentence strips that are durable as our students progress to using a phrase/sentence to request.
