In this new age of media, my journalism students need equipment to advance into the new millennium of news reporting. They would love to work on live reporting, podcasting, and videoing events and information.
My students are in 9th-12th grade.
They are ambitious and enthusiastic about their publication, and they work hard to make sure they are reporting the history of the school accurately and appropriately. Our school consists of approximately 2400 students. We have an Ondine and print publication funded solely on their fundraising and donations.
My Project
The equipment will be used to advance into the technological age we live in. A camera is needed for photojournalism--taking pictures as news or in combination with words. The camcorder will be used for live interviews, event coverage, or news videos. I can enhance the course to include lessons in multimedia news reporting. Furthermore, the students can provide a wider range of news coverage by using this new knowledge and equipment.
A picture is worth a thousand words and a video even more.
Many of my students want to become journalists in the future. I want to be able to provide them the basics of photojournalism--using both still photos with the camera and videos with the camcorder. The ability to use these forms of equipment is crucial in this day and age. Inspire my students by donating some new digital equipment to capture school history. Their possibilities will be endless. Thank you!
