My students need flip cameras to document their neighborhood, families, and other group projects in order to utilize and learn the most up-to-date technology.
When I saw my 6 month old nephew trying to enlarge my calculator with his fingers, I realized that technology has evolved so incredibly and drastically that I would be doing my students a disservice by not teaching them something simply because of lack of equipment.
My students are amazingly spirited and love to learn.
Regardless to what they may not have at home, many come to school and do the best that they possible can. Our motto is, "don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can."
We are a Title 1 school where 100% of our students are on free meal plans. Many students live in single parent households in studios or singles with multiple siblings. Last week I observed one of my students dance in shoes that were too big for her. She had her shoelaces wrapped and strapped around her ankles and calves so that the shoes would stay in place. I wanted to hug her.
The students all have such exquisite stories about their journey to America. The flip camera will enable them to document interviews as well as create their own movies about their adventures. These videos can be incorporated into iMovies and students can create short films about their life thus far.
Students can also use the cameras for science and reading projects. They can film how litter looks in their community. They can document graffiti. They can record their plays and reenact literature and plays. This tool will serve multifold.
I work with 75 students each day.
Your donation of the equipment will enable 75 students to embrace the 21st century technology as well as expand their learning horizon! Thank you!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
