Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fifth-grade teacher at a Title I school in South Carolina where "every student counts and every moment matters." Our students come from low-income families where 100% receive free breakfast and lunch.
Even though they face many hardships outside of the classroom, my students come in eager to learn and take on new challenges.
There are so many learning opportunities to be done in the classroom, but sometimes they do not have all the resources to make that happen. This is where we need your help!
We are so grateful of your interest in our classroom. I sincerely thank you.
My Project
Picture books are critical!
They help children to better understand themselves and the world around them.
They offer comfort during hard times and make students burst into laughter during happier times. They encourage conversations between children with their peers and children with adults. They allow students to use critical thinking skills with their imagination to predict what will happen next. Picture books also help build vocabulary and self-confidence. Picture books help develop a child's love of reading early to build a lifetime love of reading, writing, and learning. These engaging picture books will also tie in to what we are learning in social studies, science, and math. Please consider helping my students become exposed to more books!
