My Special Education and ELL students need 2 digital cameras.

I teach junior high students with learning disabilities, cognitive impairments, speech/language issues as well as students learning English as a second language.

The biggest issue for most of these students is learning and using new vocabulary. Workbook assignments are limited in their effectiveness and are boring. Students need to be excited about learning.

Students that "experience" new vocabulary are more likely to retain that new word. Words students encounter in their daily lives have value to students and are more likely to be remembered.

You can help students "experience vocabulary" and make it personal and meaningful by providing digital cameras so they can take pictures and have visuals of those vocabulary words they need to learn in order for them to grasp and retain knowledge.
