Help me give my students the gift of a great book. These books all relate to my students in some way, shape, or form. Mr. Peabody's Apples is written by the singing sensation Madonna.
Life has really changed for my students. It has been especially difficult because we left for Spring Break, and we never came back to school. Schools in our state will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. I was able to hug my babies and tell them I loved them before Spring Break, but we had no idea that we would not be seeing each other in person until the following school year.
I meet with my students twice a week via Google Meet to answer any questions and play a few games, but it is just not the same.
Half of my students are reading below grade level and I am concerned that this much time outside of the school building is going to hinder the gains they have made this year. I would love to use fun and engaging picture books to help review skills that they need to maintain for the next grade.
My Project
I will use these picture books to help review the skills that my students have worked on throughout the school year. These engaging, high-interest books will be read aloud by me, recorded, and placed on my website for students to access. From there, they will complete activities based on the skill of each book.
Half of my students are reading below grade level and the picture books will draw them in and help them feel safe in these scary and stressful times.
The topics and authors of the books selected will help to engage the students in the skills as well as distract them from the craziness of the world around them.
