Help me give my students a Fujifilm Instant Camera, a Canon Selphy Photo Printer, Kwik Stix, canvases, and art accessories to help build our art expression and practice!
We are the Scholar Class. Together we work towards bettering our lives, education, and personal self worth. We are a public choice school in Concord, CA. Parents and the community have committed to supporting their child's education by volunteering their time in and outside of the school and making education a priority. There is no question that our students are privileged to have such amazing support and perhaps one of the reasons we are one of the top 20% high performing public schools in California. However, we rely on time and energy, not money.
Our wait lists are getting longer, and our school is becoming more and more diverse, which just widens the students' needs and abilities.
They speak more than twenty-seven languages including English, Spanish, Bulgarian, Russian, Japanese, Tagalog, and Arabic. Along with multicultural and economic diversity, our school is seeing a large increase of students being diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Autism, and other learning disabilities. Therefore, the need to look outside the box and find ways to meet the needs and abilities of our students is more important today than ever.
My Project
After looping with my first graders to second grade, I am constantly trying to find new ways to connect art and self expression with our new reading, writing, and math curriculum. Who wants to do the same art projects you did last year? The answer is simple...nobody! We need to be innovative, creative, and risk takers with trying new things!
As the saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words and what better way than to get my kids to snap pictures, print, and display their art all while learning and integrating cross curricular activities!
There is no denying that we are living in the digital age and now, more than ever, our students are exposed to images from near and far in almost real time! Figuring out how to integrate those images into our classroom has been easy, but actually getting my students to take, print, and make art cannot happen without the materials and technology. Thus, why I am asking for an instant Fuji mini 9 camera to record and illustrate our everyday learning. My students are also using apps like Seesaw on their Chromebooks to communicate to their parents what they are learning in the class. But, why not also be able to display their pictures in the class? Hence, the reason why we need a photo printer. Lastly, while digital images are becoming more of a focus in our classroom this year, we don't want to ignore the wonderful traditional art forms of painting and drawing. This is why we are needing canvases, paint (Kwix Stix & watercolor paint pens) and brushes so we can display our work for our school on easels!
