"Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow," Anthony J. D'Angelo said, and my third grade students are eager to learn and grow.
My third grade students come to school each day with smiles, hugs, and laughter.
We are located in a high poverty, rural school district in Michigan. Coming from a small school and a tight-knit community, the teachers and students in our K-12 school all know each other quite well. On average, our school has a population of about 300 students. We have one teacher per grade level, which makes for a very personal, unique atmosphere where the academic and social development of our students is our top priority.
I have been teaching in our school district for seven years, and am looking forward to many more years of guiding children in the learning process.
My Project
My third graders are in critical need of children's books to supplement and enhance our social studies curriculum such as "River Ran Wild", "The Giving Tree" and "City Green". We have adopted a curriculum that is designed to be taught using a variety of children's literature to make each lesson come to life. With the addition of these powerful children's literature books, my lessons will provide my students with stories and photographs of history, landmarks, and legends of natives. In my experience, most children learn best when materials are presented in a visual manner. These children's books will do just that, as well as provide quality material for teaching across the content areas beyond social studies.
Thank you in advance for your interest in helping to develop and improve my third graders' social studies learning experience.
With your help, it is my dream to offer my students lessons that capture their interest so that each child is engaged. I have no doubt that with the addition of the children's literature books, this goal can be attained!
