Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a Pre-K classroom consisting of 4-year-old boys and girls. Many of my students come from economically disadvantaged homes in the inner city of the largest urban school district in the state. The majority come from homes where English is a second language. The students, and their parents, manage to rise above it and come to school daily ready to learn through play.
A typical day in our classroom is full of laughter and a sense of security.
They look forward to the hands-on activities that help to foster a sense of community.
My Project
I believe that pictures are the perfect way to give parents a window into the classroom. While technology is an amazing tool, it's time to get the pictures off of our screens and into the hands of my students and their families.
Seeing themselves in photographs also helps to build children's self-esteem by showing the children that we value them and their work.
Your donation will allow us to use the Canon Selphy CP1300 photo printer to develop the pictures my students have taken into beautiful photos. Using the photo paper and extra ink cartridges, the children will be able to create books showcasing their creations (which they already document by taking pictures with the iPad), as well as give their families a glimpse into our daily routine. We will have enough initial supplies to allow each child to print at least 20 photos of their activities throughout the year, and the case will insure our printer stays safe when not being used.
