My students need a comfortable place to gather together for teacher read aloud time, class discussions, small group mini lessons, free choice reading time, game days and more! They are on the cold tile floor now.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a traditional 3rd grade class of 25 students who are natural mathematicians, super sleuths in social studies, and enthralled with all things science! My classroom environment directly impacts almost twice as many students daily than the other 3rd Grade classrooms at our school, because in addition to my 25 homeroom students, I also teach an intensive Reading Intervention Program to a different group of 26 other students.
I am fortunate to teach a large group of dynamic students who are all brilliantly unique and talented in their own way.
They have been exposed to and are learning a curriculum with high reaching common core standards since Kindergarten. The students at our school are taught with a wide range of best practices from traditional methodologies as well as Whole Brain and Open Mindset approaches, and they are truly eager learners!
Every day, my homeroom students that are proficient in Language Arts travel out to join the classrooms of my grade level team teachers. In exchange, I receive a group of students who will benefit from additional time to focus on phonological memory development, and explicit decoding skills instruction in addition to our core reading program.
My Project
My students love to sit near me when I read literature aloud, introduce a new topic in science or social studies, or give a mini lesson & draw our input chart on the easel. At this time, I have to use two 2'x 4' play carpets that we roll out frequently during the day.
The children are good sports, but the tile floor is cold, hard, & unforgiving.
I believe that a carpet will join us in a space where everyone can be together. It will also make a difference in the students' ability to settle down, & keep their focus on learning, and not how uncomfortable they feel.
