My students need cash registers, engaging picture books about saving money, saving and spending activities, magnetic money, money games, a professional book on extending addition and subtraction lessons, and reusable pocket charts to preserve color copies!
My second grade ICT students are ready to face each and every day with excitement. My class consists of Special Education students, ENL students of all levels, most of which have recently arrived to New York City and a few general education students. All of my students love to learn and many of them are kinesthetic or visual learners. The best way to learn about money is through playing with money!
I want to give each of my students the foundation that they need so that they can aspire to be anything that they want to be and overcome any obstacles or challenges they may face along the way.
My Title l school in Flushing, Queens has been working on social, emotional wellness by implementing Ruler. We recognize the importance of being mentally and emotionally healthy by connecting with one another.
My second graders and future students will greatly benefit from your help by allowing them to receive the materials that they need in order to be financially successful.
My Project
My 2nd grade ICT students are primarily kinesthetic hands-on learners. These resources would help engage them and get them excited while we learn about money. Learning about money is an extremely important part of everyday life, and every child should have access to these resources.
The cash registers will be used by the students to play store where they will count change, and practice important life skills that they will use throughout their lives.
My students will learn about saving money through listening to engaging read alouds, and learn the importance of budgeting their money. Magnetic coins will be used to help provide students with a visual of the actual coin while I am teaching. The wipe off pocket charts will help me preserve colored copies to help my lower functioning students by giving them differentiated activities.
The professional resource containing Minilessons to extend Addition and Subtraction will help me improve my teaching practices, and allow me to help my students take their critical thinking skills to the next level. Money games will keep all of my diverse learners engaged and excited. When the learning is fun it will feel like less work! Thank you for helping us become financially responsible!
