Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The smallest things can make the biggest difference." I tell my students this daily to inspire them to take the time to focus on the small things (sight words, basic math facts) that will lead to success in mastering other skills.
Many of my students are loving in poverty.
They often times struggle with basic needs like food, shoes, even socks, so school supplies is not a high priority.
They are giving, loving, and eager to please. They have a desire to succeed and enjoy being part of a school / classroom family.
Our school is full of generous faculty and staff who want nothing more than to create a wonderful environment for our students,
My Project
It is a daily struggle in our classroom to keep enough sharpened pencils for my students to use. This is frustrating for all of us, especially when trying to teach writing/handwriting skills.
My personal sharpener broke early in the year. We have a manual one on the wall that is not functional. For a holiday gift I got them all hand held personal sharpeners, but they are not ideal.
We stared the year with a good amount of pencils, but it is hard to keep up with the demand. I usually have to send pencils home as well for students to have to complete homework.
This would be a small thing that would make a HUGE difference in the daily learning experience of my students.
It would be wonderful to not worry about counting enough pencils out and borrowing sharpeners every afternoon to ensure they each have one to use the following day!
