Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My group of students are in first grade. They are mostly six and seven year old children. They attend a school that is considered to be an excellent neighborhood school. Many attend this school because it is a "gem" and because the students learn either Spanish or French beginning at the Kindergarten level. Our school is comprised of 98% minority enrollment, most of which is Hispanic, and low income.
My students are comprised of an energetic and eager group of first graders.
They walk into the classroom ready and willing to learn. They are filled with an unexplained excitement. Some have said that they would love to "spend the night" in our classroom. I find this statement to be a huge compliment.
My students have hard-working parents who love them very much. They may not have the resources to provide the financial support needed to keep up with the demand of technology outside of the classroom. Many come from families who know little to no English and helping their children becomes an insurmountable task at times.
My Project
My request would benefit my students in so many ways. Our resources are very limited in the Public School Sector. Some days, we have working computers, and some days we do not. The lap tops that we currently have are very old and there simply are not enough for children to use in a center.
Giving students access to technology opens doors to a world that many cannot afford.
My students would benefit from my request because they could access information about scientific discoveries, historical events, mathematical sites, and literature based websites as well. They could read books about cultures, language, and fun and exciting topics of choice. My students truly deserve this opportunity, as well as working and dependable technology in the classroom.
