Thirty years ago, Apple was just a fruit. Fifteen years ago, Google was just a funny word. Did you know that over half of the jobs that current pre-kindergarten students will hold when they graduate high school in 2031 don't even exist yet?
I work as the computer lab teacher in a great, diverse, and effective school.
Here, we have a mix of students who live locally, within walking distance, and many others who travel by school bus, city bus, and private van service to come to our school daily.
We have general education classes, special education services, and students who have been identified as gifted and talented. Our students were born in this country or overseas. I teach every one of these boys and girls from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade on a weekly basis.
My Project
Once again, we need new mouse pads for each of the computers in the lab. Our computer tables are old and sticky, (no matter how many times we clean them), and the mice don't always move smoothly across them. Having clean, smooth mouse pads will allow our mice to move easily both physically, in our hands, and visually, across the screen. This is so important for my young learners. When the mouse gets "stuck" they get frustrated and feel they have done something wrong.
Being able to move the mouse and see it react in real time will allow my boys and girls the experience of successfully manipulating all of the computer hardware.
Kids in today's world are used to touching a tablet or smartphone, so using a mouse a with a mouse pad is interesting, exciting and new to them. Students need a smooth experience to drag and point.
In addition, these colorful mouse pads will brighten up our computer pad!
