I teach eighth grade reading and I absolutely love my job. I teach at a great school. Everyone works together and our students thrive on this positive energy. The collaborative climate makes our school system second in the state. The students I teach are great and make my job a blast! By teaching reading, I come into contact with many students who do not like to read. Usually it is because they have never been given anything interesting to read, or have a negative attitude about reading because no one ever made it fun. I try to pick novels that are fun and age appropriate for my kids. My curriculum requires that I have my students read a mystery novel. They love Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. It is a great book. After several years of use, the books are falling apart, as is Caroline B. Cooney's novel, The Face on the Milk Carton. I would like to purchase new classroom sets of these two books. The students enjoy them so much and would appreciate books that aren't falling apart. I have 150 students who would benefit from new novels. A new novel is a wonderful thing to open and begin an adventure!
