Help me give my students a comfortable and welcoming space to explore their love of reading, as well as flexible seating options that will allow them to learn and collaborate easily in small groups.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, curious, and hard-working sixth graders, who come from low income families where English is a second language. Their innate passion and love for reading is abundant, but their resources and access to books is unfortunately limited. Their time at home is often spent contributing to the family, and they do not have a chance to truly explore their own love for literature.
My students frequently ask to borrow books from my personal collection and inquire when I will be adding new books to the library!
Upon completing a novel in class, the students are eager to read the sequel and further develop their reading skills outside of school. I applaud this! Their interest tells me that they have the desire to become better learners, and this desire is often not something that is easily instilled in children. Their excitement for reading and learning gives me a great deal of hope and inspiration to continue to develop the best learning environment possible for them.
My Project
Reading truly is fundamental, especially to a child who has limited exposure to the English language when he or she steps foot outside of school. As an English teacher, I can only expose my students to so much content in a period, a day, or even a school year. We hardly have the opportunity to discuss grammar, vocabulary, and creativity as much as I would like.
Independent reading is essential to escalating a student's knowledge and academic success.
By providing a welcoming environment, I can spark an excitement in students for reading, with the hopes that when they do engage, they are learning about ideas, concepts, and vocabulary, without even realizing it! Additionally, giving students the ability to work outside of their desks, collaborate in small groups, and even "check out" these books, helps to develop a sense of independence and responsibility amongst each learner, making them more accountable for themselves and invested in their own learning and growth.
