This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Students are part of an indoor/outdoor music program in Bakersfield, California. They compete against ALL schools in the city, as well as some out of town schools, for the top spot in the local circuit. There is a lot of hard work from staff but mainly from students! They are urged to fundraise for materials and transportation in order to make each year successful ! Expenses such as buses for competitions, new instruments for our ever growing group, and uniforms are a few of the many challenges we face EACH year !

My Project

Being the best of the best now requires more than just playing music. There’s a lot that goes into this program. It involves the music and how well we portray it with what we play and how we act out! Think of this organization as a form of theatre. We have a story to tell, there’s a beginning and end. In most cases it’s not always “happily ever after”. There’s choreography involved in the process, we in our best efforts, design and structure the show from top to bottom. Down to to WHAT we play, HOW we play it, and ADD as much effect as we can !
