This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in need of a better reading experience where they can read the way they want with to the integration of technology.
I teach a wonderful group of 4th graders at a Title I school which has a large number of students who receive free or reduced lunch.
Many of my students are reading below grade level, however they are always ready to learn and thrive when technology is integrated.
My Project
With a large percentage of students who are below proficiency for reading this project will provide students an opportunity to, interact with electronic books (e-readers) in ways they do not with printed words. The Nook's interactive reading tools will assist my students with their reading by allowing them to increase or decrease font size, highlight text to support their thinking, look up definitions with its dictionary application tool on hand. The dictionary application tool will increase my students’ vocabulary as well as comprehension.
My students are highly motivated by technology but not many of them have access to it at home, which is why I believe it is imperative to support students for a technological world, by providing them with tools they need such as the Nook eReader.
