I have the pleasure of teaching a diverse group of 7th grade students that attend a Title I, public junior high school located in Southern California. Although many students may come from different socioeconomic situations, they are motivated to make a better life for themselves and their families.
High expectations are the norm in my classroom and the kids know it.
I work hard to create engaging lessons for my kids, so they can become critical thinkers. Although it takes a lot of work, it is 100% worth it!
Remember the excitement of starting the first day of school? It was a mix of nerves (Where's my classroom?, Will my teacher be nice?, Will I be assigned a lot of homework?) and elation of being reunited with your friends.
Unzipping a new backpack and lining up freshly sharpened pencils, brand new pens, and highlighters (that have plenty of ink) is a great motivator to start off the school year in the right direction!
By donating to this project my students will be able to have a brand new backpack (One in which the zipper actually zips!) to carry around school. Anytime my student will need a pen, pencil, highlighter, index cards (for their flashcards, or speech notes), or notebook they will have them thanks to this project.
