Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school with a high population of ESOL students. I am constantly amazed by my students' desire to learn and the amount of determination they have to succeed. One of the best ways I have found to provide for all of my students' diverse needs is hands-on learning and technology integration. Technology is able to bring to life many of the abstract concepts that my students are learning about and allows them to interact with a concept, instead of merely reading about it.
Students who are actively engaged are able to learn more and at a deeper level.
Technology allows us to tailor the education to meet the educational and cultural needs of the students.
My Project
These supplies will ensure that all my students have what they need to learn. Most of my students come from low SES backgrounds and many of them are here fleeing from hurricane Maria. These students may not have even the most basic of supplies like pencils. In our classroom we are a family and I want to be able to provide for any student that need some assistance. Pencils may seam like a small thing but without them it is impossible to complete any work. Colored pencils are used to illustrate students learning this is especially important with ELL students. Candy can be used as a motivator and a tangible reward for a job well done and can help establish a culture of fun in the classroom.
Not having the needed supplies should never be hurdle that my students have to jump.
With these supplies, not only will the basics be covered but also candy to reward those students who regularly overcome the odds to succeed both in school and outside of it.
