My students need a new area rug for us to have our daily morning meetings and closing circles.

My students are college-bound 8th graders who attend our inner city charter school in Baltimore. They come from all different neighborhoods and backgrounds, which is what makes them all so diverse and unique, but also makes it challenging to engage and reach each and every one of them.
The special thing about my students is how much they really care about each other, and their teachers.
It is such an amazing experience to be able to see them off to high school, but their needs have changed, which is why we need your help!
Every morning my students and I start our day with morning meeting. A morning message is read by a student (usually ending with a cheesy joke!), then students choose a different way to greet one another. After our greeting, we do a reading from our character building book. Then, we do a share, which is when I will ask a question, usually an opinion about something, and students are able to share their opinions or thoughts. Finally, we play a game that gets students up and moving, laughing, and energized to start their day!
It is so important in my classroom that we meet every single morning for this routine, and we need a rug for our morning meeting.
Even though I teach 8th graders, I know they they value our daily meetings and look forward to them each day. It is so important for my students to feel welcomed and acknowledged before they start their day. It puts them in a good mood, which can be so important for my students. A lot of my students come from homes where they are the primary caretaker of their little siblings and our morning meeting time is a time for them to enjoy being a kid.
