My first grade classroom consists of 20 students. We are a Title 1 school and are located in a small, tight-knit community in a rural setting.
Unfortunately, a majority of our children live in economically disadvantaged homes and receive free/or reduced lunch.
I intend to reach each of my students by making our space as inviting as possbile, acknowledging their various learning styles, interests, and abilities, and providing them with the resources they need in order to be successful in the future.
In order to create a comforting classroom environment, I want to improve my reading area. In doing so, I feel as if my students would benefit from a book shelf where they can easily access “just right” books. This bookshelf will also be a convenient spot in our classroom to display themed books near the holidays or texts that go along with our units of learning. In addition, I want to add more pieces of literature and utitilize softer lighting like floor lamps rather than our overhead lights.
As early learners, literacy is the key in their academic development.
By receiving this donation, my students will enjoy their favorite titles in a cozy spot.
