Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
We're a fairly new school and this is the first year our students have a real library! Most of our students struggle with literacy, and over half read several years below their grade level. Our school has received some small grants, but we have a long road ahead to building a suitable library that encourages all students to read daily.
My goal is to purchase a variety of books on different reading levels and content to boost all our students' love of reading and desire to learn. Many students have already requested books they would like to read, and I want them to feel seen and heard.
The best way to improve whole-school literacy is to engage students in more reading, and these selected books will continue to help my students improve.
