This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am in my second year at this campus and I want to make an impact! Last year I started a new book club. They elected officers made title suggestions and came up with a long list of books that they would like to read as a group.
The students are enthusiastic about all things Manga, Anime, and Graphic Novels.
The members of the club are in various grade levels and visit the library on a daily basis to inquire about what is new and next. They have also given me a long list of requested titles.
My Project
Students who are members of the Graphic Novel & Anime club have a love for all things Manga, Anime, Comics, and Graphic Novels. What better way to get the club off the ground at this campus than to create a project that will get these popular titles into the hands of students along with the tools they need to write reviews and summaries of what they have read.
Our campus has started a literacy initiative that involves reading and writing across the content levels.
What better way to continue this work than to start a club where students can work on these skills after school? When the students have read and discussed these titles they will write reviews and post their reviews of the books on the library OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog). This will allow other students to read their reviews before they decide to select a book to check out! It's a great way for them to share their thoughts on a title with their peers across the district.
