A New Bookcase and New Books for a New Semester!

My Students

Students visit our school library both on their own and with their classes. They eagerly flock to my shelves to read books that spark their interests. Keeping the library shelves stocked with compelling books — and keeping those books in good condition can be a difficult task.

My students are a great bunch of kids and they come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

With all of my students, nearly every book genre and subject are in demand.

When students have access to books that interest them, they love to read. Our students tend to be less economically well off, and I want to ensure that they still have equal access to the materials that are available to students in wealthier neighborhoods.

My Project

I've been setting up additional library space and time for my students, to give them more access to reading materials at all times. Given the recent social distancing rules, I'd like to help "spread out" popular books to improve access while avoiding crowds of students. Additional small, portable bookcases help to provide access and allow repositioning, to meet school safety guidelines.

The best way to get kids reading is by giving them access to books they want to read.

By giving my students easier access to more of the books they want to read, I can keep them reading! Self-motivation is incredibly important when it comes to improving reading skills.
