Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Being that it is the summer, I haven’t yet met my students. What I do know about them is that they will have a wide range of different literacy levels. Expanding my library by having many books of different reading levels and subject areas will help them to feel confident as well as help their reading. I hope that they are so excited when they walk into my room on the first day and see the library I have prepared for them!

My Project

Students in second grade usually read at a wide range of reading levels. Some students come in reading almost at a third grade level while some may only be at an early first grade reading level. Students also have many different interests. Growing our classroom library by adding books of different reading levels that can also spark a wide range of interests is essential for giving my students the best opportunity to improve their literacy. Being a new teacher, fresh out of college, I do not have the amount of books or even the means to purchase the amount that are needed to do this. By donating to this project, you would be helping my kiddos to become awesome readers!
