Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to come to school each day. I strive to make it a welcoming environment that every child can learn in. We have built a community in our classroom that allows each student to be comfortable with who they are. Even though we are a diverse school, everyone feels included.
About ninety-five percent of my students are receiving free or reduced-price breakfast.
Many students are living with a single parent or both parents work full time, although many parents are eager to help in any way they can.
My Project
We are all looking forward to the seeing our students again. The problem is, none of us believe we will be back in the classroom this school year. Even though I cannot be with my students right now, I can prepare for next year when I have a new set of students.
Our supplies will need to be replenished for next year.
Supply bags were made for our students so that they would have materials to work with while they are learning at home. I was able to donate dice to add to the bags. Since we use dice almost daily in our classroom, the new dice will replace what I was able to provide for the students. We also use Play-Doh daily in our classroom. We use it to make numbers, letters, model addition and subtraction, and so much more. We are running low on Play-Doh, so I would like to restock it so it is ready for the new set of students.
I am adding financial literacy lessons into our center-time. There is already a cash register in our kitchen center and the students love pretending to serve their friends food off the menu and charging them for the food. They have been asking for aprons and chef hats so they can feel like professional chefs.
My students love books! These new books will be added to our library to give students more opportunities to read and be read to. I cannot wait to get back into the classroom and teach my students, whether it be this year or next school year!
