This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
It's hard to believe, but the school year is almost over. This means saying goodbye to the old students but looking forward to the new students.
I teach in a high poverty area where the families are struggling just to keep a roof over their heads and food in their mouths.
Asking them to purchase school supplies becomes an added burden. The school is located in New York City in East New York. It is an area hit hard with unemployment , which makes it hard for parents to buy school supplies. But my students have a desire to learn, they just lack the resources to make it possible.
My Project
These supplies will be used throughout the school year. The notebooks will be used for the subject areas such as writing, math and science. The pencils will be available to all the students who come to school without one but need it in order to complete school work. Some will be sent home to insure homework gets done. The pencil cases will contain the pencils and crayons to do and complete classwork.
Every child deserves a great education, but if you lack the basic supplies, you are pushed further back.
For many, this is their first time in school, and from this experience they will form their view on what school is like. Do the people there have their best intentions towards me? With your help, the answer will ring loud and clear. This is what your support will mean.
